Mavis , Original Artwork

I named this piece after my Nan, Mavis.

Today I was sitting near the little doll she once owned in my entryway, looking over at this painting, when her name suddenly came to me.

My Nan always reminded me of a tiny garden fairy. Soft, gentle, a little quirky… with this sweet pixie-like energy about her.

Without even realising it, I painted little pieces of her into this work. The daisies especially, her favourite flower.

Mavis means “songbird,” which feels fitting with her owl guide nearby and a tiny hummingbird whispering in her ear.

Funny how art reveals things without us planning it. I didn’t realise until now who she was becoming all along.

I hope Mavis brings a little warmth to your heart too.
