Olivine Basalt – Original Abstract Painting by Ani Ipradjian

Framed in Tasmanian Oak
104cm (W) × 104cm (H)

✔ Original painting by Ani Ipradjian, Melbourne-based Australian artist
✔ Acrylic and mixed media on canvas
✔ Signed on the front by the artist
✔ Framed & ready to hang – Tasmanian Oak

As a child, I was always fascinated by the beautiful bluestone buildings, churches, laneways, and historic architecture my parents and I discovered while walking through Melbourne and travelling around Australia. I never knew then that this remarkable volcanic stone—known as olivine basalt or Victorian bluestone—would become one of my greatest artistic inspirations. Widely used during the Victorian Gold Rush, it remains one of Australia's most recognisable building materials and a defining feature of Melbourne's heritage.

This painting is my personal interpretation of this extraordinary volcanic stone, celebrating its rich textures, strength, and timeless beauty through layered abstract forms and contemporary colour.
